The Merchant of Venice mounted at Cutler Majestic

The Merchant of Venice, starring Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham, opened March 29 at the Cutler Majestic Theatre and runs through April 10. Directed by Theatre for a New Audience’s Darko Tresnjack, this remix of the 16th-century tragicomedy by William Shakespeare has been getting rave reviews

While Theatre for a New Audience incorporates 21st-century props into the production, such as a smartphone, a laptop, and a hip-hopping Launcelot, the messages about friendship, mercy, prejudice, and other timeless social themes have not changed.
