The Merchant of Venice, starring Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham, opened March 29 at the Cutler Majestic Theatre and runs through April 10. Directed by Theatre for a New Audience’s Darko Tresnjack, this remix of the 16th-century tragicomedy by William Shakespeare has been getting rave reviews .
While Theatre for a New Audience incorporates 21st-century props into the production, such as a smartphone, a laptop, and a hip-hopping Launcelot, the messages about friendship, mercy, prejudice, and other timeless social themes have not changed.
