McCauley and Shea highlighted in Globe for "Sugar"

January 18, 2012

Performing Arts faculty member Robbie McCauley’s new one-woman show, “Sugar,” which is also directed by faculty member Maureen Shea, was featured in the Sunday Boston Globe. The play, a story of McCauley’s own struggle with diabetes and the race issues surrounding the disease, premieres at the Jackie Liebergott Black Box Theater on January 20.

“Sugar” is “as much about race as it is about diabetes, because Robbie also explores the history of sugar cane, and the sugar plantations, and the idea of being slaves to sugar,” Shea told the Globe. McCauley concurred: “For me it’s as much about the African-American experience as it is about the diabetic experience.’’
