Based at the College, HowlRound, a think tank for the arts, has developed a way to recognize and reward underpaid artists that doesn’t involve traditional currency. Instead, artists would engage in an alternative economy by using “Culture Coins.” Artists would buy and sell credits through offering each other rehearsal space and other valuable resources that are needed. It’s one of seven ideas selected by EmcArts as a finalist for its Business Unusual Challenge. The winning idea will receive $35,000.
