Journalism Department Chair and Professor Ted Gup recently penned an article for the Smithsonian magazine. The op-ed piece appears in the October edition and challenges the demand for instant communication in an increasingly distant society.
In the article, Gup uses his own experience to argue that iPhones, Blackberries, and similar devices have “created a nation of zombies.” The world is more connected than ever, but has the communication revolution gone too far?
Gup is a prolific author whose work includes Nation of Secrets: The Threat to Democracy, the American Way of Life and The Book of Honor: Covert Lives and Classified Deaths at the CIA. His latest book, A Secret Gift, will be released in October.
