The Center for the Theater Commons called "revolutionary" in American Theatre magazine
September 25, 2012
Emerson’s innovative Center for the Theater Commons (“The Commons”) is featured in the October issue of American Theatre magazine. The article details the center’s history and how it found a home in the Office of the Arts, alongside ArtsEmerson, within an academic setting. The Commons is described as a “think tank” that “aims for nothing less than to transform the way American theatre is done and talked about, both in the short term and, most especially, over the longer one.”
The Commons, which came to the College in July 2011, is a center for the research of processes, challenges, opportunities, and best practices in developing new theatrical work. The Commons includes an online journal, HowlRound; a livestream theatre tool, #NEWPLAY TV; and the real-time interactive New Play Map.
