October 02, 2013
Professor Richard West of the Communication Studies Department
Richard West, professor in the Communication Studies Department, recently learned his co-edited anthology was selected as Outstanding Book for the Family Communication Division by the National Communication Association.
The book, The Family Communication Sourcebook (Sage Publications, 2006), provides an in-depth examination of contemporary theory and research in the area of family communication. Chapters in the book examine storytelling, conflict, power, discipline, family rituals, cyberkids, and interfaith marriages, among other topics.
The Division, one of the largest units in the NCA, selects a book each year that represents exemplary scholarship as it relates to the family and all of its values, themes, and challenges.
The award will be presented at NCA’s annual convention in Washington, D.C., in November.
