Marketing Communication faculty member Jenessa Carder, MA ’11, and her colleagues from SapientNitro will host the session Building the Future Landscape of Geofencing, on Saturday, March 8. SapientNitro is an interactive marketing, creative design, and technology service in Boston.

Carder

The utilization of geo-information by marketers and government organizations is becoming widely adopted, prompting examinations of personal privacy and business implications that geographically associated information touches arises, according to the SXSW website.

“Geofencing,” Carder said, “is the intersection of location (our experiences tied to a place) and boundaries (virtual lines) and data (collection of knowledge.) It helps us understand the micro-context of a consumer at any given point in their life’s story.”
