November 08, 2013
Alan Roth ’81 was named a winner this week by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the 2013 Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting competition for his screenplay, Jersey City Story.
Winners of the Nicholl Fellowships will receive a $35,000 prize, the first installment of which was distributed at an awards presentation November 7 at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California.
For the first time, the event featured a live read of selected scenes from the fellows’ winning scripts.
The Academy established the Nicholl Fellowships in 1986 to identify and encourage talented new screenwriters from around the world. The competition received a record 7,251 entries for 2013. Fellowships are awarded with the understanding that each recipient will complete a feature-length screenplay during his or her fellowship year.
