Chris Faulisi ’10 will release his first feature film, A Proper Violence, June 3–9 at the Culver Plaza Theatres, in Culver City, California. The film is a dark, human look at revenge and regret that tells the story of a young man who is released from prison and tries to lead a normal life, but is haunted by his past.

A Proper Violence had three screenings at last year’s Marché du Film in Cannes, France, and earlier this year, Cinema Epoch bought the distribution rights. The film has also picked up a major national video-on-demand deal: It will be available this fall on Comcast, Time Warner, Verizon, and through other major carriers.

“Watching the film was like being on an emotional roller coaster as you navigated through the suspenseful plot,” said Chicago Sun Times writer Anita Chatterjee. “I absolutely love it!”

Fillmmaker Chris Faulisi is a recent graduate of Emerson.

Faulisi directed the film and co-produced it with his childhood friend Matt Robinson, who wrote the screenplay. Other Emersonians who worked on the project are Sam Goldman ’09, an assistant editor, and Alex Salem ’09, a member of the film’s marketing and promotions team.

“At Emerson, I met lots of like-minded people and collaborators,” said Faulisi. “My premiere is rapidly approaching and I’d love to get as much support from the Emerson community as possible. If we reach our admissions goal of 1,500 people, our release will be expanded to include more cities across the country, potentially even Boston!”

During the premiere week, the film will screen three times per day: 1:50, 5:30, and 8:50 pm. Question and answer sessions with the cast and crew will follow the 8:50 pm show on both June 3 and 4. The June 3 show will be followed by a premiere party; the show on June 4 will be followed by a director’s party. Cast, crew, and some celebrities will be in attendance at both of these celebrations.

Tickets for both special showings are available for presale at:
