Emerson undergraduates explore the creative evolution of contemporary artists in their exhibit, Next Generation 4, in Emerson’s Huret & Spector Gallery December 9 –February 12.

The exhibit was curated by students in Lois & Henry Foster Chair Joe Ketner’s Seminar in Western Art, Section 2 class, and features the painting, sculpture, video projection, photography, prints, and drawing of 10 emerging student artists. The artists were chosen from Boston University, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Their work illustrates how there is, “neither one medium nor one issue that dominates modern culture,” said Jonathan Cortizo ’11, a member of the class.

“The artwork in the Next Generation 4 exhibit is as powerful as a power line simultaneously exploding in the dark of night. Like the flames that light up the sky, these works are too luminous. We chose the artists that we felt perfectly represent our generation, the ideas and styles from the artists can’t be duplicated—they are each their own.”
