Maureen Murphy, former Vice President for Financial Affairs and Treasurer at Brandeis University and former Chief Financial Officer at New York University in Abu Dhabi, has been named Vice President for Administration and Finance at Emerson College, effective October 18.

Murphy, who has managed operating budgets of more than $200 million and an endowment of $600 million, brings to Emerson more than 20 years of experience and leadership in financial management, administration, and capital project planning and oversight. She has also held leadership position in the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), the Eastern Association of College and University Business Officers (EACUBO), and The Boston Consortium (TBC) of colleges and universities in Greater Boston.

An honors graduate of Northeastern University, Murphy holds a master’s degree in accounting from Northeastern and a master’s degree in taxation from Bentley University. Prior to her assignments at Brandeis and NYU, she worked at Tufts University and at the KPMG accounting firm.

“Maureen has a reputation as a consummate professional in finance and administration,” said Emerson President Jacqueline Liebergott. “We are delighted that she will be joining our management team. As we move forward in difficult financial times to further enhance our facilities and programs in Boston, and as we prepare to build a new center in Los Angeles, it is reassuring to know that Maureen is on board.”

Liebergott said Murphy will oversee the departments and offices of Finance, Property Management, Construction Management, the Registrar, Government and Community Relations, Human Resources, Facilities, and Business Services.

Murphy said she is “very excited about joining the Emerson management team as it pursues its vision in Boston and Los Angeles. Under President Liebergott’s leadership, Emerson made a bold strategic decision to move its campus across town and reinvigorate Boston’s Theatre District. I look forward to building on the solid foundation that has been laid and helping the College shape its future.”
