Roman Gerodimos, a senior lecturer in global current affairs at the Media School in Bournemouth University in England will spend time at Emerson as a guest scholar from October through January.

According to his online biography, Gerodimos is currently exploring ways of mobilizing and empowering global citizens. He is co-editing a book on the role of media as an agent of civic empowerment and disempowerment.

While at Emerson, Gerodimos will work with the Engagement Game Lab to help with research and developing new projects. He will also provide guest lectures for the Department of Marketing Communication.

Gerodimos will contribute to the development of Emerson’s newly forming Global Engagement Lab, which is expected to launch in Spring 2014.

The current Engagement Game Lab focuses on ways to use video games to promote civic dialogue and social change, while the Global Engagement Lab aims to build cross-border, cross-cultural media to provide networks for positive global change.

Gerodimos will work with Eric Gordon, director of the Engagement Game Lab and associate professor in the Department of Visual and Media Arts; and Paul Mihailidis, assistant professor in Marketing Communication.

Gerodimos has served as a faculty member at the Salzburg Academy on Media and Global Change, for which Mihailidis serves as director, for the last four years. Emerson signed a memorandum of understanding with Salzburg to collaborate on educational initiatives this fall.
