Emerson well represented at writing conference

A long list of faculty and alumni from the Writing, Literature and Publishing Department led discussions and events February 26-March 1 at the annual Association of Writers & Writing Programs (AWP) Conference & Bookfair in Seattle.

Each year, AWP holds its annual conference and book fair in a different city to celebrate the authors, teachers, students, writing programs, literary centers, and publishers of that region. More than 12,000 writers and readers attend the annual conference, which has more than 650 exhibitors.

The Emersonians hosted a wide range of discussion topics pertaining to writers, which included writing about pop culture; how to emotionally deal with career success or lack thereof; how to issue constructive praise and criticism to students; how to generate subtext; a discussion on flash writing; and how Twitter can work for writers.

The alumni in attendance included: Alexandria Marzano-Lesnevich, MFA ’10; Rebecca Morgan Frank, MFA ’03; Phong Nguyen, MA ’02; Kathleen Rooney, MFA ’05; Linwood Rumney, MFA ’10; Matthew Salesses, MFA ’10; Andrew Ladd, MFA ’10; Kate Racculio, MFA ’05; Liza Monroy ’00; Wesley Rothman, MFA ’12; Nicole Miller, MFA ’12; and R.J. Taylor, MFA ’12.

The faculty members included: Richard Hoffman, Pamela Painter, Alden Jones, Ladette Randolph, Pablo Medina, Lisa Diercks, William Orem, Kim McLarin, and Jonathan Papernick.
