Emerson's new mobile website offers easy access to information most commonly accessed on emerson.edu.

“We want to share news and information quickly and efficiently with students, faculty, staff, and alumni,” said Andy Tiedemann, vice president of communications and marketing. “Mobile is not only the future of communication: it is already here. Smart phone users want easy-to-navigate links, so that is what we’ve tried to provide with this new mobile website. People using tablet computers, such as the iPad, will still want the full website experience, so this is not really for them,” he said.

When a user goes to www.emerson.edu from a mobile device, the website detects how it is being accessed and gives the user the option to be redirected to the new mobile website or to go to the full website. The mobile website features easy access to the some of the most popular links on www.emerson.edu, such as news, events, eCommon, the campus directory, and admissions information. It will also display campus alerts like inclement weather closings. The mobile website contains limited graphics, allowing for quick page load on mobile devices.

According to a 2010 study conducted by Pew Research, 38 percent of adults and 65 percent of 18-29-year-olds access the Internet on their mobile devices. Analysts predict that cell phone Internet browsing will surpass computer web browsing before 2015.
