CNN exec comes to Emerson
April 05, 2011
CNN’s Jim Crane is visiting Emerson this week. Crane, executive director of standards and practices for CNN, will be teaching in the Entrepreneurial Studies Program, E3, as well as presenting a discussion on the current state of social and traditional media which is open to all students at Emerson.
“Jim’s experience as an executive of a major, global network provides a unique perspective regarding the functions and effects of media,” said Karl Baehr, director of Business & Entrepreneurial Studies. “We don’t often get a glimpse into the spheres of influence that comprise his average day.”
Crane is an award-winning producer who has won multiple Emmy Awards, Peabody Awards, and the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for his work at CNN, as well as Disney, Fox Television, and Post Newsweek.
“This is a valuable opportunity for our students,” Baehr said. “Jim’s experience and influence touches on many of our student and faculty endeavors and courses of study, research, and teaching.”
Dr. Crane will teach business ethics and socially responsible business in the E3 Program on Wednesday, April 6, and host an event open to all students on Thursday, April 7. The event, the State of Social and Traditional Media, will be held in the Multipurpose Room in Piano Row. Networking opportunities with Crane will be available.
