Multicultural Programs

African American Heritage Month

Occurring in February, this month focuses on raising awareness of the contributions of African Americans in building America. Although we sponsor programs throughout the year that celebrate African American contributions, we come together in February for a time of education, reflection, and recognition!

Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month

May is Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month, a celebration of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States. Programming ranges from lectures and music to movies and live performances.

Cultural Legends Ball

Held each October, the Cultural Legends Ball features music and dancing. Students are encouraged to dress up as their favorite cultural icon (e.g., David Bowie, Nelson Mandela, Audrey Hepburn, Whoopi Goldberg, Desi Arnaz).

Hispanic-Latin American Heritage Month

September 15 through October 15 is Hispanic-Latin American Heritage Month, a celebration of the history, culture, and contributions of Americans whose ancestry originates from Spain, Mexico, The Caribbean, Central America, and South America. Programming ranges from lectures and music to movies and live performances.

Music Week

This program runs during the month of October and is an opportunity for the campus to celebrate the music of different cultures. Programs are sponsored by many different departments and student organizations.

Multicultural Banquet

Held each spring, the Multicultural Banquet celebrates multicultural cuisine and a student meet-and-greet.

Multicultural Taste of Boston

This program explores the connection between food and the cultures that create them. "Taste of Boston" series features countries and cultures such as India, China, Japan, and Latin America.

See What Happened at the Multicultural Banquet

Emerson's Office of Multicultural Student Affairs and its four cultural groups AMIGOS, EBONI, ASIA, and Speak Up enjoyed international cuisine and live music in April to celebrate the end of the school year. The all-female band Zili Mistik, which blends various musical influences such as Haitian, Brazilian, Jamaican, and African sounds, delivered a powerful performance.
