Media Services Center Nonprint Circulation Policy

The Media Services Center (MSC) houses the Library's collection of DVDs, videotapes, 16mm films, compact discs, audiotapes, and other media materials that are available to members of the Emerson community. Materials can be located via the Nonprint Web Catalog, the printed Video/Film List, or by consulting MSC staff.

Sound materials (compact discs and audiotapes) circulate to members of the Emerson community who have current, valid Emerson IDs, or to members of the Fenway Library Consortium who have current IDs.

DVDs, videotapes, 16mm films, and other visual materials circulate only to Emerson College faculty for preview or classroom instruction. Faculty who assign outside classroom viewings of MSC materials are encouraged to reserve the conference room or video studio for group viewings, and to request that students select a viewing time from these reserved slots.

Students may view these materials either as part of a group or by reserving individual viewing stations. Staff may borrow materials for 24 hours, provided materials are not needed for classes or student viewing. To ensure materials are available for instruction and study, staff loans are limited to one title per circulation.

Faculty who borrow video materials agree to the following use policies:

  1. Materials will not be used as part of off-campus instruction or programming.
  2. Faculty may borrow materials for a two-week period. If they are unable to meet the designated return time, faculty must contact MSC as soon as possible.
  3. Materials must not be exposed to demagnetizing or desensitizing processes, such as at a library checkout.
