Television Studios

The Emerson College Television Studios are located in the Tufte Performance and Production Center.

The teaching facility is composed of:

A classroom incorporated into a standard television control room. Normal video production routines and standard classroom functions take place in the same space. 18 standard academic tablet chairs fit comfortably within the control room. Location of equipment and video systems was configured for ease of teaching and movement of faculty. Lecturing, demonstration, tape viewing and critiques can easily be satisfied as well as utilizing the standard control room video equipment and production systems.

A working, professional 40’ X 28’ sound-treated studio containing standard professional cameras, a computer lighting system and the other customary pieces needed for live video production.

  • Acquisition of House Time is by GPS received from the Naval Observatory atomic clock in Denver.

The 40’ X 43’ Di Bona Family Television Studio (below) is comparable in size to network affiliated television stations and production houses. This studio has a 14’ grid, a full complement of television lighting instruments controlled by a computer lighting system with dimmers. It can be used as a sound stage for film productions, an audio recording studio and can hold several standing studio sets simultaneously. The capability of an UltraMatte green chroma key system and a curved hard infinity wall. Seating capacity is comfortable at 65

The Vin and Cara Di Bona control room (25’ X 21’ seen below) was designed by Sony professionals in conjunction with academic and TRF specialists and creates the same environment found at advanced television facilities in the U.S.

The heart of this facility is the new DVS Sony 9000 series switching system capable of complex real time special effects and uses state of the art digital programming. Network level character generation is available, along with still and motion image storage. The facility has a state of the art audio suite with the capability of advanced audio production for television and film recording.

The studios are linked to Verizon’s Television Operations Center (TVOC), the main switchpoint to all paths out of Boston.  It is also interconnected with the Journalism TV news complex in the Walker Building, The Emerson Channel, the Semel Theatre as well as the Culter Majestic Theatre.
