Archives Digital Photo Project

In the spring of 2003, the Emerson College Archives initiated a pilot digitization project. The goal of the Digital Archives Project (DAP) was to create digital copies of selected materials from the Archives collection. Digitization is important for two reasons: it allows materials to be posted on the web, making them available to a wider audience; and it also serves a preservation function, as it protects the original document from the wear and tear that results from repeated handling.

For the pilot project, 50 key images from the Archives photograph collection were digitized. The subjects of these photographs include past presidents and former faculty members, the first building ever owned by the College, and the early activities of the broadcasting, drama and speech therapy departments. The results from this project may be viewed at the Emerson College Archives Image Collection website.

This project was made possible by the generous support of Trustee Marillyn Zacharis.
