Encyclopedia of Life Sciences
A fairly advanced encyclopedia that contains some good basic information.  For best results, click on Advanced Search and limit your search to Introductory articles.  The Advanced articles will be beyond the average undergraduate.

Academic Search Premier
Expanded Academic ASAP
These two multidisciplinary databases are good starting points for research on any topic. They include many full-text articles on a wide variety of topics, and Emerson subscribes to many of the other magazine and journal titles indexed in them.
