Media Collection Services

Requests

Requests  for media materials to be used as part of coursework may be sent to the Library Liaison supporting each academic department, or directly to the Media Librarian.

To be sure your materials are ready when you need them, please submit your requests by the following dates:

  • August 20 for the fall semester
  • December 20 for the spring semester
  • May 1 for summer sessions

Scheduling

Media materials may be scheduled for class use by faculty, professional staff, and graduate students responsible for teaching a regularly scheduled class.

Media materials can be scheduled online via the Film and Video Catalog.  Faculty can also schedule media by phone 617-824-8676 or by sending email to the Media Librarian.

Course Reserves

Faculty are encouraged to put media materials on reserve for in-house use by their students.

We offer two types of reserves:

  • Closed Reserves
Reserves the item for a specific time frame, and prevents it from circulating out of the Media Collection department, assuring that it is available for student viewing. You can request that items be put on reserve in person, or by calling 617-824-8676.  To assure availability, please place items on reserve early.
  • Personal Collection Reserves
Instructors placing their own materials on reserve must come to the Media Collection circulation desk to fill out reserve forms when dropping off their materials.  Please request assistance from a full-time staff member.

Media Rental

If an instructor is unable to find specific materials in our collection, and they are not available or suitable for acquisition, we can arrange to rent them. Please contact the Media Librarian to arrange for rentals.
