Removing the Former Configuration for Accessing Library Resources from Off Campus (via the Proxy Server)

Once you have removed the former configuration, go to the new instructions.

Select the web browser that was configured:

 

Internet Explorer

Netscape*

Microsoft Windows/PC

IE6 IE5 IE4 IE3 N7, N6 and N4 N3

Mac/Apple

  IE5 IE4 IE3

*If you have been using Netscape because you encountered problems with your primary web browser, you should be able to use the other browser now. However, we still recommend that you remove the configuration from Netscape.

Microsoft Windows - Internet Explorer 6 and 5

  1. From the Tools menu, choose Internet Options, and then the Connections tab.

  2. Dial-up modem users: Select the name of your service in the Dial-up settings window to highlight it, and then select the Settings button to the right.
    Cable modem, DSL and LAN users: Select the LAN Settings button.

  3. Under the Automatic Configuration heading, uncheck the box next to Automatically detect settings.
    Uncheck the box next to Use automatic configuration script, if it has a checkmark in it.
    You can delete the Address entry, but that should not be necessary.

  4. Select OK in both windows.

  5. Click the Refresh button.

Microsoft Windows - Internet Explorer 4

  1. From the View menu, choose Internet Options, and then the Connection tab.

  2. Under the Automatic Configuration heading, select the Configure button.

  3. Delete the URL entry.
    Click Refresh, and then OK to exit the window.

  4. Select OK.

  5. Click the Refresh button.

Microsoft Windows - Internet Explorer 3

  1. From the View menu, choose Options, and then the Advanced tab.

  2. Select the Automatic Configuration button.

  3. Delete the URL entry.
    Click Refresh, and then OK to exit the window.

  4. Select OK.

  5. Click the Refresh button.

Mac - Internet Explorer 5 and 4

  1. From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.

  2. In the box on the left, select Network, and then Proxies.

  3. Under the Use proxy servers heading, uncheck the box next to Web proxy.
    You may need to also uncheck the box for Use Web Proxy for all.
    You can select the Settings... button and delete the Address and Port entries, but that should not be necessary.

  4. Select OK.

  5. Click the Refresh button.

Mac - Internet Explorer 3

  1. From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.

  2. In the box on the left, select Network, and then Proxies.

  3. Select Disabled. This will clear the circle next to Enabled.
    You can delete the Address: http:// and Port entries, but that should not be necessary.

  4. Select OK.

  5. Click the Refresh button.

Netscape 7, 6, and 4

  1. From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
    Mac users: In Netscape 7 on OSX, select the Netscape menu, rather than the Edit menu, and then choose Preferences.

  2. In the Category box, select Advanced, and then Proxies.

  3. Select Direct Connection to the Internet. This will clear the previous selection.
    You can delete the Configuration Location (URL) entry, but that should not be necessary.

  4. Select OK.

  5. Click the Reload button.

Netscape 3

  1. From the Options menu, choose Network Preferences, and then the Proxies tab.

  2. Select No proxies. This will clear the previous selection.
    You can delete the Configuration Location (URL) entry, but that should not be necessary.

  3. Select OK.

  4. Click the Reload button.
