How to Place Items on Reserve
We can only process requests submitted on a reserve form. This form is available at the circulation desk or as an online form. By submitting the reserve form, you agree to abide by the library’s established reserve policies (see below).
To insure fairness, we process reserve lists in the order in which they are received. During the first five weeks of the academic semester it may take up to two weeks to process material. After this initial period, it will take up to three days. To insure that the material is available to students please submit your reserve requests as early as possible and plan your course assignments accordingly. You need to submit a new list each semester, even if you have taught the course previously. Material will be removed from reserve if it has not been specifically requested for the current semester.
Thank you for helping us better serve our students.
Guidelines for Placing Materials on Reserve
Articles
- Photocopies and reproductions of materials must be in compliance with the Emerson College Copyright Policy. Guidelines for copyright are available at the circulation desk.
- Photocopies of articles or excerpts from books may be placed on two-hour reserve. Reserve items are not allowed to leave the library and are due back to the reserve desk within two hours of their initial checkout. A fine of $1.00 per hour will be assessed for any late reserve material.
- The library can place a maximum of two copies of each article on reserve. This is due to a shortage of available shelf space.
- Please have the articles copied yourself as library staff cannot photocopy any reserve material. Only 8.5”x11” copies will be accepted.
- Give the complete title and author of the article on reserve form. If the material is an excerpt from a book please provide the title of the book and either the chapter number or the page ranges.
- Please be sure to include the source of the photocopied material of the reserve form when you place an item on reserve and give as full a citation as possible. This is the law and will help in the event that copies are lost.
Books
- All material will be placed on non-circulating, two-hour reserve. Reserve items are not allowed to leave the library and are due back to the reserve desk within two hours of their initial checkout. A fine of $1.00 per hour will be assessed for any late reserve material.
- The library will place on reserve the most recent edition of a book available in the collection unless a specific edition is requested. If we do not own a copy of the book, please provide the following information: author, title, publisher, year, edition, ISBN, and translation if applicable. Books which must be purchased maynot be available for six to eight weeks. Keep this in mind when planning your semester and alert the library of your needs as soon as they arise.
- If you wish to place your own material on reserve, be certain to mark the “Personal Copy” box on the reserve form. The library will not place a personal copy on reserve if we own a copy of the book. (Exceptions may be made for classes with large numbers of students.) Please search the Library Catalog before placing a personal copy on reserve. Please be aware that the Emerson College Library cannot assume responsibility for the condition of personal material.
Please contact the Reserves Coordinator, Ian Thistle (x8326), if you have any questions.
