Emilia Dubicki
Seven paintings by Emilia Dubicki, Assistant to the Chair of Emerson's Writing, Literature, and Publishing department, are on exhibition in the Library at 120 Boylston until the end of the Spring 2001 term. Dubicki primarily uses acrylic paint on canvas to capture the moods of the Cape Cod and Maine coasts. She explains, “the calming effect and unpredictability of the ocean, and the changing colors of the sky pose a fascinating challenge to me as a painter. Especially near the coast, I am interested in how a bright blue sky can often quickly transform into a mass of gray clouds. The sky, ocean and beach roads have their variations at night as well. Painting them, trying to capture their particular feel is what motivates me to return to the easel and to the coast. I lean towards minimalism and clean lines but I have a love of the abstract as well. I work from my own photographs and memory.”
