David Akiba Exhibit

David Akiba photo Photographs by David Akiba, of Emerson's photography faculty, are on exhibit in the Library at 120 Boylston through December. The photographs on display are from a series that focus on nature in the Boston area, featuring scenes from Hammond Pond Reservation in Chestnut Hill and Olmsted Park, and close-ups of natural features. Akiba works in both color and in black and white silver prints, tracking the changes in the seasons and the abstract beauty of nature. Of the works on display at the Library, Akiba says, “The Emerald Necklace, created by Frederick Law Olmsted, is as familiar to me as the faces of my children; and like my children it engenders feelings of passion and concern … In this great park system, I have studied the intricate relationship of pond, stream and river to the surrounding landscape. I've observed the effect of seasonal change and day-to-day-weather patterns. In my photographs I have tried to achieve a fusion of form and feeling.”
