Artist's Non-Statement
Over the past few decades it has become fashionable for curators to ask artists to supply written statements about the work that they put on display. After spending great amounts of time and energy in the studio, darkroom or atelier before an easel, camera, enlarger or work table one is now asked to write about what one is trying to do. The novelist, poet or playwright does not have to give a statement. His or her work speaks for itself. With that in mind it is my wish that the viewer looks at my work and decide for himself or herself just what it is that shows some sort of intrigue or not in the specific pieces. After going through different permutations of the creative process I feel it is not up to me to explain my images. That would be similar to the comedian explaining his joke or the singer explaining her song.
