Artist Statement

I don’t know why certain scenes demand the attention of my camera. I find myself attracted to natural patterns that make the familiar appear unfamiliar. I’m drawn to a pulsating inner life that suggests a non-verbal, hypnotic story.

Similarly, I have found that when people relax, they literally have character written on their faces. Their expressions are like revelatory chapters in lengthy and textured books.

When I take a picture, I stop the movement and flux of things and people.

Until I look at the picture.
