Mobile Teaching Lab

Mobile Teaching LabThe Mobile Teaching Lab consists of 24 Windows XP laptop workstations that are wirelessly connected to the Internet and Emerson College's networked resources. It is available for class use in properly networked classrooms in the Walker Building (120 Boylston Street) and the Tufte Performance and Production Center (10 Boylston Place).

Faculty members interested in reserving the Mobile Teaching Lab for a class session may fill out the Lab Reservation Request Form online.

MTL These laptops are housed in a mobile cart that contains the wireless equipment that creates the specialized network for the MTL. This network allows the laptops to access Emerson's networked resources, including the 8-Day Public server, their Pages folders, and a black and white laser printer on the mobile cart.

MTL ClassThe laptops are delivered to classrooms and passed to students by IT technicians. The laptops can be configured with an extra battery for extended use, CD-ROM drives for viewing media, or 1.44MB floppy drives for data storage. There is also a USB Zip 250 drive on the cart that can be attached to any of the laptops for high capacity removable storage.

For examples of how professors are using the Mobile Teaching Lab in their course curriculum, visit the faculty profiles on the ITG web site.
