Internships

The semester-long internship course is founded on the principles of experiential education and is considered fieldwork in an academic major. Incoming students are closely advised by the LA Center prior to their arrival and may select internships from a database of over 800 internship listings. Within the first two weeks of the semester, students are required to submit a Learning Agreement and essay based on their internship placement. Requirements for the course also include three mandatory class meetings, weekly journals, and a final project connected to the internship experience. Students may intern at one intern site for 4 or 8 units of credit only.

Required internship hours for fall and spring semesters:

  • Four units of internship credit: 16 hours per week at the intern site.
  • Eight units of internship credit: 24-32 hours per week at the intern site.

Student interns are closely monitored by the LA Center staff and faculty and are expected to receive a true learning experience at their internships. Opportunities are available in a range of internship positions at a broad spectrum of intern sites, including (but not limited to):
