Information Systems
The central purpose of the department of Information Systems is to:
- manage the College’s financial data and student information systems and integrate these databases with other campus systems;
- plan, design and implement new administrative applications in consultation with other departments;
- provide day-to-day operations support, as-needed reports and user assistance.
Most of the financial and student data is maintained on a mainframe computer, commonly known as WALDO, though IS has been working to create web-based applications and interfaces such as those that allow students to view and update their personal information, make payments and register for classes. The IS staff works very closely with Business and Finance, Student Administrative Services, Admission, and other departments on campus to evaluate and design more efficient solutions for data management.
Emerson administrative and student information systems are for official use by Emerson College faculty and staff only. Unauthorized use is strictly prohibited. Supervisors can request user accounts for new employees by sending an e-mail to Derek Thomas, Director of Information Systems. If the new staff member needs access to the departmental budget lookup application, the supervisor should also e-mail the Controller in the Business and Finance office and indicate which specific accounts need to be accessible.
Please go to the Student Information Systems page for details about access, data reporting and documentation.
