IT Help Desk

The IT Help Desk (617.824.8080), located in room 404A on the 4th floor of 120 Boylston Street, is the single point of contact for Information Technology support. Whether it is a problem you are having with your computer or a question about connecting to the Emerson network, the IT Help Desk staff can assist you. Often the technicians will be able to resolve your technology problems or answer your questions over the telephone, via e-mail or online using the Live Support chat feature at the Help Desk website. The IT Help Desk also schedules technicians to assist faculty and staff in their offices. Site visits for students are limited to problems with Internet access in the residence halls.

Instructional Technology Group

The Instructional Technology Group supports Emerson faculty with the integration of appropriate educational and communications technology within the curriculum. ITG collaborates with faculty in the assessment, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of instructional technology. Emerson faculty are increasingly using ITG’s web-based, digital, and course management resources to enhance teaching and learning.

Macintosh and Windows operating systems are present in all of our computing locations, and the latest software is available for use by the Emerson community. The labs provide easy access to inkjet, laser printing, photo printing and scanning. In addition to managing labs, Lab Operations works very closely with the IT Help Desk to ensure best practices and efficient support in all areas of computing.

Staff members are available to assist in the setup and operation of this equipment. The MSC provides technical assistance for special events. Services include setting up and operating data projection systems, facilitating teleconferencing and providing amplification for speakers.

Networking/Telecommunications

All Emerson faculty, staff and students are provided with an Emerson College network (ECNet) and e-mail (ECMail) account. ECNet provides a single point of authentication at Emerson for access to computing resources in the computer labs, e-mail, web publishing, file storage, and online tutorials. The campus is extensively wired; each classroom has at least one network connection, and on-campus students have port-per-pillow high speed Ethernet network connections in their residence hall rooms. Wireless access is available in part of the Boston Common and throughout most of the College’s buildings.

The Department of Telecommunications (Telecom) is responsible for overseeing the College's telephone infrastructure, from operating the College switchboard (617-824-8500) to maintaining the voice-mail system (617-824-7500). Telecom performs all telephone purchases and installations for faculty and staff in addition to providing basic telephone service for students in residence halls.
