Vice President of Information Technology
Bill Gilligan is the Vice President for Information Technology (IT). The area is comprised of several talented teams: Instructional Technology, User Services, Networking and Telecommunications, and Enterprise Systems. In addition to IT, Bill oversees Television, Radio and Film Production (TRF) and WERS, the College’s acclaimed radio station. He has learned, during 30 years at Emerson as faculty and administrator, that things work best when he keeps himself and other obstacles out of the paths of the host of much-smarter colleagues that he is privileged to work with in IT, TRF, and WERS. Bill and his wife, Bev, live on the NH seacoast and enjoy skiing, golf, kayaking, and following the adventures of five grandchildren.
Associate Vice President of Information Technology
Brian started his career as an IT work study student at Seattle University. From there, Brian developed a technical background in Unix systems administration, networking, and information security. For the past ten years he has held leadership positions in project management, user support, enterprise applications, and data center operations. Brian has spent time living in a few different countries (Thailand, Singapore, Australia and the United Arab Emirates) and enjoys history, philosophy, and world affairs. Brian and his wife Melinda have two children, and spend their time gardening, running, and playing strategy games.
Senior Administrative Associate
Laurie Walton is the Senior Administrative Associate for Bill Gilligan, VP for Information Technology (IT). She also participates in the IT Communication process and plays a key ambassadorial role for the VP, IT Directors, IT staff, and constituent departments. Before joining Emerson she was an Operations Manager and Executive Assistant at Powderhouse Productions, and an Executive Assistant at the Red Sox Foundation. Laurie loves bacon, popcorn, old movies, anime, everything Sci-Fi, and singing.
Manager of User Services
Will is the Manager of User Services in IT. He leads a team that supports general Staff and Faculty support; builds creation and deployment, provides phone and in-person support at the Help Desk, and handles hardware receiving and inventorying. Outside of work, Will is a musician and filmmaker, and likes to cook. Sometimes he even finds time to watch movies. Will is currently finishing his MFA in Media Arts at Emerson College, where he has either edited or color corrected nearly everybody's movie.
Customer Support Specialist
Samantha Stringfellow is the Customer Support Specialist for the I.T. Help Desk, providing direct email and in-person support to Emerson’s staff, faculty, and students. She handles everything from password resets to software updates to server management and can often be found buried under a pile of laptops. She is active on the IT Communications Team and often handles updating the department’s social media accounts and making sure the college is well-informed about new IT developments. Sam started out as a student worker at the Help Desk and after graduating Emerson in Dec. 2014 with a B.S. in Marketing Communications simply refused to leave. When she’s not working, Sam enjoys baking (some might say too much), kickboxing, playing guitar, and watching entire seasons of TV faster than anyone thought possible.
Technology Support Specialist
Sofia Belenky is the long-time Technology Support Specialist in Emerson IT. Originally from Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg), Sofie attended Radio Polytechnical and received a bachelor’s degree in radio electronics. After building a family, Sofie came to Boston, MA, where she worked as an electronic technician for a public library. She began full-time at Emerson in 1990, and was a key member of Emerson’s original three-person IT department, learning, implementing, and purchasing any new technology that entered the college. In the 24 years at Emerson, Sofie has trained and mentored well over 100 work-study students, and continues to be a principal hardware and tech support specialist. The campus print server is named after her, for her years of printer repair. She is a collector of Star Trek: The Next Generation toys, and doesn’t want to share how many grandchildren she has.
Desktop Support Coordinator
Brad Benkle is a Desktop Support Specialist for the I.T. Helpdesk. Well versed in Mac and PC operating systems while also holding certifications as a Cisco Networking Technician and an Apple Certified Support Professional. Originally from Sacramento, CA, Brad earned his BA in Visual Media Arts from Emerson College. While a student at Emerson he spent every semester as a Labbie for the Digital Film Lab. After graduating he worked in customer support for Avid Technology, until moving back to San Francisco, CA to become an Applications Engineer and later a Post Production Supervisor at a Reality TV studio. Brad enjoys watching all things Sci-Fi, San Francisco Giants, and bowling.

Manager of IT Lab Operations
Molly Coombs is the Manager of Lab Operations, overseeing the design and support of classrooms and labs across six time zones, as well as maintaining software licensing, the alarm system, and the render farm. Born in Washington D.C., Molly graduated from Emerson with a BS in Print & Multimedia Journalism (’11) after four years of dedicated service to the IT Help Desk. She was promoted to Manager of Lab Operations through a combination of hard work, fresh ideas, and being really, really annoying. In her copious free time, Molly enjoys baking, large Post-Its, and writing in pen. She does not look good in hats.
Lab Support Services Analyst
Jacob is the Lab Support Services Analyst at Emerson College. Tasked with making sure computers run smoothly in both labs and classrooms, he regularly tackles the day to day troubleshooting of computer hardware, as well as software installations and updates. In addition to supporting these spaces, he also tests and deploys software builds, and specializes in supporting the Avid family of products. After graduating from Emerson with a BA in Film Production in 2010, Jacob worked in the television post-production world, only to develop a professional interest in IT. In his free time, Jacob enjoys playing computer games, watching summer blockbuster movies, and being a staunch advocate for clean, glorious cable management everywhere.
Robin is the Application Specialist for the Lab Operations team. She educates users by creating instructional documentation and signage, and by coordinating software workshops. She also researches software for the lab computer builds and oversees testing of these builds. Prior to coming to work at Emerson full-time, Robin worked in White Plains as a designer for a web and print firm. Before that, she was an Emerson IT student employee while earning her MA in Visual and Media Arts ('07) from Emerson College. She spent her undergraduate years in New Orleans, graduating with a BS in Linguistics ('03) from Tulane University. Robin enjoys playing video games, baking, cake decorating, gardening, crafting, and providing a comfortable face for her cat Yoshi to lounge on. She has a not-so-secret crush on Adobe Illustrator.

Manager of Media Services
As the Manager of Media Services, Carlin helps facilitate and execute the upgrades to our mediated classrooms and supervises requests for event support and vending at the Media Services Center. She is also responsible for hiring, scheduling, and training the IT student staff working for the Help Desk, Lab Operations, and Media Services. Before joining Emerson as a staff member, Carlin studied music, focusing in piano performance and education, and spent several years working in post-production for non-fiction TV. She has a bachelor's degree in music education from Providence College and a master's degree in media arts from Emerson.
User Services Coordinator
Regina is the User Services Coordinator for Media Services. She oversees the daily operations at the Media Services front desk and coordinates the daily vending operations and customer requests for the team. Regina also hires, trains and molds the young creative minds of tomorrow. And she can edit videos!
Technical Services/AV Supervisor
Elbert enjoys the night shifts as the Technical Services/AV Supervisor. In the evening, he rescues classrooms in distress, serves the Emerson community with his AV superpower during special events, handles media duplication requests, and fosters the next generation of Super Techies when supervising the Media Services front desk. All other times he hides his true identity behind videos games and pop culture stuff.
Senior AV Support Engineer
John is the Senior AV Support Engineer, overseeing the operation and maintenance of audio/visual projection systems in 60+ classrooms and event spaces. He modifies and creates custom code/macros/touch panel graphics which enable faculty to automate classroom technology with minimal effort. John graduated from Berklee College of Music in '92 and has been active in the Boston music scene for 25 years as a performer, engineer, producer, arranger, programmer, and remixer.
AV Support Technician
As an AV Support Technician for Media Services, Karen pro-actively tests and helps maintain media equipment in 60+ classrooms, labs and events spaces. She is also called upon to troubleshoot technical issues, help with equipment installations and offer customer support where needed. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Filmmaking from Emerson College and is currently an active musician in the Boston/Cambridge area. As a singer/ songwriter/ guitarist she performs and records in a number of noise/psych/folk projects as well as solo under her own name.
As an AV Support Specialist, Ricky assists with the upkeep and operation of audio/visual systems in classrooms and event spaces. Before working at Emerson, he studied Jazz at the University of Minnesota Duluth. While there, he became a sound engineer for music performances, theatre productions, and collaborative projects with local and visiting artists. After moving to Boston in 2015, he worked as a freelance AV technicianat Brandeis University and other AV companies. He gets a kick out of live music and his baby niece’s dance moves.
Director of IT Infrastructure
Frankie Frain is the Director of IT Infrastructure. He is originally from Westport, MA, and holds both a BA and MFA ('08, '12) from Emerson College, where he studied filmmaking. After receiving his undergraduate degree, Frankie was hired full-time in IT, serving as an administrator and technician in the college's computer and production labs. After several years, Frankie was selected to join the Systems and Networking team. In October of 2013, Frankie was promoted to the position of Director of Networking and Telecommunication, in which he leads the team responsible for Emerson's data and voice network, servers, data center, backups, and more. His favorite movie is Rocky and his favorite food is mac and cheese.
IT Infrastructure Project Manager
Hugh Gilbert is the IT Infrastructure Project Manager at Emerson College. He is originally from central New York, and attended Emerson College as a film/mass comm major. During his student time, Hugh was a work study student for Facilities, and ran the switchboard as a student employee. In ‘81, he applied for the job and became full-time at Emerson. As time went on, Hugh operated as the telecommunications coordinator, telcom services manager, the mailroom supervisor, and many other roles. After 30 years of serving the Emerson community, Hugh continues to manage IT infrastructure projects in Boston and LA, such as Ethernet cabling, phone upgrades, physical security, AV systems/installs, and more.
Information Security Officer
Dennis Levine is the Information Security Officer at Emerson College. He is from Norton, MA, and holds a BS in Radio, Television, and Film from Oklahoma State University, where he was a disc jockey, TV engineer, and studied computer engineering. Soon after, he worked at Channel 12 in Providence, RI, where he worked in production and master controls. After several years, Dennis opened several businesses of his own before going into IT full-time. At Emerson, Dennis is responsible for network and server maintenance, with a strong focus on technology security and best practices. He loves ice cream, camping, and harassing his two kids.
Bryce Riner is the Network Administrator in Emerson IT. He is originally from Acton, MA, and holds a BS in Mathematics from UMass Amherst ('04). While getting his degree, Bryce interned with Emerson IT, where he developed the college's DHCP registration process and became acquainted with Emerson's data infrastructure. After being hired full-time, Bryce's aptitude saw him promoted from a Systems Analyst to the key Systems and Networking Administrator in IT. In the past 10 years, Bryce has been instrumental in developing Emerson's VMware, storage, Juniper, and wireless infrastructure. Bryce refuses to own a television and is the silent guardian of Emerson’s network.
As a business student at Northeastern, Ryan Buzzell started his career as a co-op for Solomon Smith Barney but was hired out of his co-op as a Telcom Administrator for one of the Big 5 (now 4) accounting firms. As his peers moved from corporate to higher ed, he quickly followed, realizing the pleasure it is to work with such creative people. His passions are travel, his dogs, and his family, and in his free time, he manages a small travel agency and studies traveling trends.
Steve Bohrer joined Emerson in December 2015 as a Network and Security Admin, and is still finding his way around campus and getting up to speed on Emerson's systems. Previously Steve lived in Great Barrington, in the Berkshires, where he was the entire networking staff for Bard College at Simon's Rock. Steve is excited to live in Boston, and enjoys being part of a larger networking team. Before moving to IT, Steve was a programmer, working on embedded meteorological data logging systems, and computer games. Outside of work, Steve likes riding his bike, and Morris dancing.
I have been in the IT field for over 15 years. It all started with an internship in high school working helpdesk for a local construction company. I have been in almost every position from desktop support / help desk to systems engineering. Before joining Emerson, I was a Systems Administrator @ LoadSpring Solutions. I like to spend my free time wrenching on things from bikes to motorcycles, and lawnmowers to snow blowers. I also like to spend my outdoor time riding, camping, and hiking mostly in the white mountains of New Hampshire with my daughter.
Director of Enterprise Systems
Neil started his career in the mailroom of Oracle, and over 10 years worked his way up to becoming a Managing Principal Consultant. From there, Neil worked for EMC, growing within that organization over 8 years to a variety of roles leading up to Director of Business Solutions. Neil then spent a few years at a research firm in Cambridge called Abt Associates as the Senior Director of Application Services. Most recently, Neil spent the past five years at American Tower Corporation as Senior Director, Enterprise Applications. Neil and his wife Beth have two children. Outside of work, Neil enjoys traveling, playing trumpet, cooking, and being involved in community service.
Anne Isakson is the Programmer / Analyst for the Enterprise Systems Team. She graduated with a BS in Computer Science from North Adams State College, and moved on to receive an MBA from American International College. She joined Emerson College full-time in 1996, and has since been instrumental in moving to Banner, supporting data integrity for the college’s business unit, and supports administrative websites and applications for SAS, the WARC, and Advising. She enjoys knitting, sudoku, and is an expert at logic puzzles.
Senior Software Applications Developer
Haiyan is a Senior Software Applications Developer. She is responsible for supporting Enterprise systems, including the Banner functional modules and Banner Document Management System (BDMS). She enjoys writing code to implement business processes for departments. Haiyan received her MS in Information Systems from Northeastern University and has a BA in English Language from Southwest University in Chongqing, China. Before coming to Emerson, she worked as a software developer at various companies such as Aspect, GE, and ISO. Haiyan loves hiking, making jiaozi (Chinese dumplings), and is currently mastering the Chinese Yo Yo with her daughter.
User Services Representative
Fong is the User Services Representative on the Enterprise Systems team. She processes security requests, writes user tutorials, and documents Enterprise processes. Fong also works with developers and users on Enterprise projects. Prior to her current role, she was the Technology Acquisitions Coordinator. Fong graduated with a BS in Management Science from Bridgewater State College and an MA in Management Communication and Public Relations from Emerson College. She has written grants for an Asian nonprofit organization for women and handled publicity for cub scouts. Fong enjoys hiking, spicy food, painting in acrylics, and writing long letters to friends in distant places.
Senior Software Application Developer
Bob Parks is a Senior Applications Developer. He has been working as systems developer since 1997, starting on mainframe applications using COBOL and JCL, gradually making his way to other platforms including PC based and Server based software solutions. Bob’s strength is in data extraction – pulling data from various sources and transforming it into a format that makes it usable to the end user. He graduated from Villanova University with a BA in Philosophy. Bob is an avid reader of the fantastic and the real.
Senior Software Applications Developer
Steven Rossi is a Senior Applications Developer and has been working in different capacities within Higher Education for over 15 years. This includes Help Desk Support, Networking Support, Associate Bursar, Systems Analyst, Database Administration, Business Analyst, and ERP Developer/Programmer. He has his AS degree in Computer Science and BS degree in Management Information Systems. His passion is working with the functional users to implement solutions to meet their business needs. Some of his favorite things to do are travel, watch movies, and play video games.
Database System Administrator
Terry is a Database System Administrator for Enterprise Systems. She ensures that mission critical systems are backed up, software upgrades are realized in a timely fashion and that system performance meets the expectations of the Emerson community. Before joining Emerson, she had her own Oracle training and consulting business. Terry loves traveling with her husband to interesting places, Heidi, (her mini-schnauzer), chocolate, yoga, kickboxing, singing, and the Red Sox.
Business Intelligence Applications Administrator
Tom Barry is the Business Intelligence Application Administrator at Emerson College. He is a Massachusetts native, and holds a BA in Economics from Framingham State College (now University). Starting out in various finance positions, he discovered his aptitude for technology and went back to school to earn his MS in Computer Information Systems from Bentley. After many years working for large businesses, Tom was convinced that he could have more impact at a smaller shop. At Emerson, Tom is responsible for the BI systems and helping his customers do their jobs more easily. He loves shoveling snow and mowing grass, as this is when he can talk to the neighbors and find out all the local gossip.
Database System Administrator
Wai On (Ron) Kwong is a Database System Administrator of Enterprise Systems in IT. He is originally from Hong Kong, and holds a BS from The City University of Hong Kong, where he studied Computer Science. After 10 year services in Lingnan University in Hong Kong, Ron was hired by Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, serving as a Lead Database Administrator to rebuild Banner system after the disaster of Hurricane Katrina in 2006. Two years later, Ron moved to San Francisco and joined The J. David Gladstone Institutes as a Senior Database Administrator. In January of 2015, Ron hired by Emerson College, in which he responsible for database administration and system management of Emerson's ERP systems, such as Banner, ODS/Cognos, Automic Application Manager, Degree Works, Workflow, and more. His favorite movie star is Bruce Lee and his favorite food is white cut chicken.
ERP System Administrator
As an ERP Systems Administrator, Zach is responsible for maintaining the systems and applications used for Emerson’s critical business and academic functions. He began his career in IT while working at the Help Desk as a student and graduated from Emerson in 2010. Before returning to the school, he worked in a variety of different environments, including television production, a scientific research facility, and a Cambridge-based startup. Originally hailing from Portland, Maine, his passions include watching television and movies with his wife, drawing, and listening to music.
Director, Instructional Technology Group
Jenn Stevens is the Director of the Instructional Technology Group (ITG). Prior to coming to Emerson, she worked as project manager/consultant in the educational technology field, and was a teacher for 10 years. She spent her undergraduate years at Haverford College and graduated from the Harvard Graduate School of Education with an Ed.M. in Technology, Innovation, and Education. She enjoys pulling weeds and reading, though not at the same time.
Creative Instructional Designer
Christopher is a Creative Instructional Designer in the Instructional Technology Group. He graduated from Emerson in 2003 with a BFA in Digital Media Studies, and is currently working on a graduate certificate in eLearning and Instructional Design from Northeastern University. Before coming to Emerson, he worked at Apple for 8 years, holding numerous positions and culminating in corporate and retail training. Illona Yukhayev is an Instructional Technologist. Prior to joining ITG at Emerson she worked in Tech/Media Support at Brandeis University, Apple and The New School. She has a BA from Brandeis in Film, Creative Writing and European Cultural Studies and an MA from The New School in Media. In her free time she likes to make films, train in MMA and watch her new born daughter make funny faces in her sleep.
Korina Figueroa is an Instructional Technologist in the Instructional Technology Group. Prior to coming to Emerson, she graduated from Wellesley College with a BA in Computer Science and returned home to New York to join the tech startup scene there. Preferring the environment of higher ed, she returned to Wellesley and received her first taste of the support instructional technologists provide. She enjoys hanging out with her dog, playing video games, eating (and occasionally baking) vegan sweets, and writing stories involving dragons.
Creative Instructional Designer
Natalie Hebshie is a Creative Instructional Designer in the Instructional Technology Group. She helps faculty incorporate technology into their teaching and learning goals. Before coming to Emerson, Natalie coordinated multimedia outreach campaigns for a variety of children's programs at WGBH. She holds a BA in International Relations from Boston University, and an Ed.M. in Technology, Innovation, and Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. In addition to her passion for education, she enjoys cooking, knitting, reading, and watching home improvement shows.
