Cabinet Folder Installation & Setup

Cabinet is a networked data storage drive that allows you to easily back up data that is of importance to you, your department, and the College. Copying critical files to your Cabinet space will safeguard against data loss due to workstation malfunction. It also allows you to easily share important documents with your coworkers.
  • Cabinet is a network drive - If you experience difficulties with your current computer, you can always reach your Cabinet space from another one on the Emerson network.
  • Cabinet is backed up regularly - Even if Cabinet malfunctioned, your data could be recovered.
  • Cabinet is secure - Only you can copy files to your Cabinet folder, and only members of your department can save data in your departmental Cabinet folders.
  • Cabinet is cross-platform - You’ll be able to back up and access your files from either Macintosh or Windows computers.
  • Cabinet is easy to use - Click, drag, and drop. It’s that simple.
  • Cabinet can be accessed from off-campus - Through the College’s VPN connection, you can access important documents from remote locations.

To connect to your Cabinet folder, double-click on the "My Cabinet Folder" icon on your desktop. Your Cabinet folder will then be opened on your desktop. To copy files into your Cabinet folder, drag and drop them into your open Cabinet folder window. Feel free to organize your Cabinet folder any way you'd like!

If you not see a "My Cabinet Folder" icon on your desktop, then please follow the instructions below.

If you do not see the "My Cabinet Folder" icon:
      
Download the "My Cabinet Folder Classic (for OS 9.x)" or "My Cabinet Folder OS X" file to your desktop and double click on it. Follow the on-screen directions of the installer program:
  1. Enter your ECnet Username
  2. Connect to Cabinet
  3. Please wait while your folder is located automatically. Once found, the icon will appear on your desktop.
Accessing Departmental Files:     

Once you have opened your Cabinet folder, you can also access Cabinet folder for your department.

    * The Internal folder allows you to share essential files within your department
    * The Public folder allows you to post file accessible by other departments

To reach these folders, double click the Departments icon on your desktop. It will appear once you first open your Cabinet folder. Find your department's folder in the Departments window and double click on it.

To connect to your Cabinet folder, double-click on the "My Cabinet Folder" icon on your desktop. Your Cabinet folder will then be opened on your desktop. To copy files into your Cabinet folder, drag and drop them into your open Cabinet folder window. Feel free to organize your Cabinet folder any way you'd like!

If you do not see the "My Cabinet Folder" icon:
  1. Download the "My Cabinet" file to your desktop
  2. Double click on the hd_MyCabinet.zip file on your desktop
  3. Double click on the file named "MyCabinet.vbs"
  4. Soon, a "My Cabinet Folder" icon will appear on your desktop
Accessing Departmental Files:

Once you have opened your Cabinet folder, you can also access Cabinet folder for your department.

    * The Internal folder allows you to share essential files within your department
    * The Public folder allows you to post file accessible by other departments

To reach these folders, go to the Start menu, and choose Run. In the small window, type in "\\cabinet". This will open an Explorer window with available sections of Cabinet. Double click on Departments and choose your departmental folder.  Right-click on your folder and choose "Create Shortcut" and place it on your desktop for easy access.
