Communication Disorders Prerequisite Information
All entering students with a non-CD undergraduate major need to complete six preparatory courses prior to matriculating into our master’s program. They are:
- Intro to Audiology
- Intro to Communication Disorders (or any survey course that covers speech and language disorders)
- Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech and Hearing Mechanism
- Language Acquisition
- Phonetics **
- Speech Science (also called Acoustics) **
You may have already completed some or all of these courses in anticipation of your application to our program. However, if you have not completed the prerequisite courses and wish to enroll in any or all of the courses during the summer, you may do so by contacting the Professional Studies and Special Programs at firstname.lastname@example.org or 617-824-8280.
Please refer to the professional studies website for information about course offerings, fees, and logistics.
Seats in Emerson courses will be reserved until April 22nd for students admitted into our program. Please note that in the summer, we combine the two courses noted by a double asterisk (**) so if you need to complete all the courses and plan to take them at Emerson, you will need to take five—not six—courses.
If you have any questions about the prerequisite courses, feel free to contact the Director of Clinical Education and Graduate Program Director Sandra Cohn Thau or call 617-824-8730.
We look forward to you joining us this fall.
