
How to Apply as an Adult Degree Student
Financial assistance is processed on a rolling basis for students throughout the academic year. However, we strongly encourage students to submit their documents by the deadlines in order to receive their financial assistance packages before bills for that semester are due.
- Complete the 09-10 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Complete the 09-10 Emerson College Adult Degree Financial Assistance Application
Additional documents to submit if you are selected for verification
- Complete the Household Verification Statement for Dependent Students or Household Verification Statement for Independent Students
- Signed copies of student's 2008 federal tax returns, including all schedules.
- For Dependent Students: Signed copies of parents’ 2008 federal tax returns, including all schedules.
- Any other documentation requested by the Office of Student Financial Services.
Additional Documentation if Applicable
- Parents not filing federal taxes must complete a Parent Non-Filer's Statement.
- Students not filing federal taxes must complete a Student Non-Filer's Statement.
- If you family derive/lose income from a business or farm, please fill out the Business/Farm Supplement. Please also include the most recent federal Business/Farm Tax Return with signed copies and all schedules.
* The Department of Education has set requirements for students to be considered independent. You must meet one of the following requirements to be considered independent for financial aid purposes:
- You were born before January 1, 1985
- At the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year, you will be working on a master’s degree or doctorate program.
- As of the date you complete the FAFSA, you are married.
- You have children who receive more than half their support from you.
- You have dependents other than a child/children or spouse who live with you and receive more than half their support from you.
- Both of your parents are deceased or (until the age of 18) you were a ward/dependent of the court.
- You are a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces.
