KASTEEL WELL: THE NETHERLANDS
A restored 12th-century medieval castle is home to Emerson's Semester Abroad Program in Well, the Netherlands. Moats and lush gardens contribute to the magic of this setting, while courses with a European focus provide the substance of serious academic pursuit.
The program's special curriculum draws on the rich resources of its location to promote cross-cultural awareness and an understanding of worldwide communication. Kasteel Well participants enroll in courses that take advantage of the European experience. Many of the courses offered are included in the General Education Curriculum. Study is combined with extensive travel, exploring the cultural and historical offerings in several major cities of Europe.
Kasteel (castle) Well is a national historical monument dating from the twelfth century. It provides living and dining accommodations, classrooms, a student center and pub, offices and a performance area for students, faculty and staff. The surrounding grounds offer opportunities for various outdoor sports. Well, located in eastern Holland near the German border, is approximately two hours from Dusseldorf, Amsterdam and Brussels, and five hours from Paris by easily accessible mass transit.
Applications are due approximately one year in advance of attendance.
