Monday, March 10-Saturday, March 15: Building Tours

Get your exclusive look at the incredible ELA center, during a walking tour highlighting both the building's state-of-the-art design and enhancements to the LA program.

Tour dates and times:

  • Monday through Friday–12:00 pm, 5:30 pm, and 6:30 pm
  • Saturday–10:00 am, 2:00 pm, 4:00 pm, and 6:00 pm
Tuesday, March 11, 7:30 pm: Thom Mayne: Emerson LA from Concept to Completion

Hear from the Pritzker Prize-winning architect how every aspect of the new center was shaped and built to reflect Emerson’s distinctive vision for our revitalized presence in LA.

Wednesday, March 12, Screenings at 7:30 pm and 9:30 pm: Fast, Cheap and Determined to Make It: Short Films

Join us for a lineup of films made by talented young alumni filmmakers and then stay for a special Q&A to get their perspectives on how you can make quick, modest budget short films that can have a big impact on your own careers. Films include:

  • All’s Fair, Todd Strauss-Schulson '03 and Ken Franchi '02

Friday, March 14, 7:30 pm: Academy Award Winning Filmmaker Screens 4K Microdocumentaries: Record Collection

See Emerson’s 4K* state-of-the-art screening room as we screen Record Collection, an ongoing series of microdocumentaries that were shot and edited in 4k about the ordinary things people do. During the program we will screen each microdoc in the series, and Academy Award-winning filmmaker Jeff Consiglio will be available for Q&A after. Join us for a brief explanation of the 4K format including how and why it looks and is better than previous formats like HD. It’s more than just the resolution.

Saturday, March 15, 11:00 am: Evolution of TV In A Digital World: The Third Golden Age?

Step inside the minds of studio executives, talent and decision makers that are creating nex-gen content through a lively debate and panel discussion. Discover how the TV industry has reached an inflection point driven new technologies, changing viewing habits and new modes of production, and how creators and producers must arm themselves with an understanding of the business of show business. Learn how pitching a script, selling a format, or auditioning for a pilot requires comprehension of the new genres, production modes and distribution paths of the "third golden age" of television.
