Berklee Study Abroad in Valencia, Spain
Emerson students who are accepted to the Berklee program in Valencia, Spain can take advantage of a wide variety of courses offered from across the Berklee curriculum, focusing on music business, performance, music technology and liberal arts. The courses offered by one of the world's top schools for modern music are taught in English by award-winning industry leaders from around the world.
Berklee Valencia prides itself on the quality of its amenities, its rehearsal rooms, concert halls, studios and equipment. Students who participate in this program will benefit from exposure to some of the richest music cultures in the world—including the Mediterranean, South America, Middle East, Europe and North Africa.
The 3,600 square meter Berklee Valencia campus is located within “Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias,” a futuristic cultural and architectural complex made up of landmark buildings located in the southern part of the city. The Berklee campus is housed in the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia, an iconic building designed for music and equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The Berklee Valencia campus is divided into two main areas, the academic area and the Berklee in Valencia Music Technology Complex. The Valencia Ballet and Opera are located within the complex.
Emerson students will take a full course load for fall and spring semesters. Students must be in good academic standing with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher and have no social sanctions against them. Most of the Berklee Valencia course offerings fulfill Emerson gen ed requirements. Emerson students must submit an academic approval form online. We highly recommend that Emerson students meet with their departmental advisor to discuss course selection and to find out which Berklee Valencia courses can qualify towards your departmental degree plan.
Emerson students attending the Berklee Valencia program are required to live in the Galileo Galilei student residence, located just two miles from the Berklee campus. The Residence Hall is a 10–15 minute walk to the beach. Meals are not included in the price of the program. However, It is relatively inexpensive buy meals in Valencia and students may purchase a meal plan directly from the student residence if they wish.
The Student Affairs office in Valencia provides students with numerous multicultural opportunities including concerts, trips, movie nights, yoga/dance classes and more. The office also organizes a drip to Granada, Spain, which is optional, and at an additional cost.
All students who attend the program must have a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the return date to the US. Every Emerson student will need to obtain a Visa from Spain. Only citizens of the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland are exempt from the student visa requirement. Students must get the student visa in Boston, or another consulate within the US, because students must have their visa in place before arriving in Spain. It can take up to 6 weeks to obtain a visa.
