
Undergraduate Programs
The undergraduate programs in the Department of Communication Studies target students who are interested in making a difference in the lives of others. Students can major in either Political Communication: Leadership, Politics, and Social Advocacy or Communication Studies.
The Political Communication major allows students to develop a working understanding of the interplay of communication and the political process. Students interested in working in public affairs, government, business, and the non-profit world should consider this major. Those students interested in working with political campaigns will find this major especially useful.
The Communication Studies major focuses on a comprehensive understanding of the role of communication in a global society. Students will select from three areas of emphasis: Rhetoric and Argumentation, Culture and Performance, or Negotiation and Dialogue. The major prepares students for a wide variety of careers in such fields as entertainment, international relations, human resources, education, public relations, health and human services, law, government, among many others. Nationally, Communication Studies is among the largest majors across college campuses.
Minors in Leadership and Management, Political Communication, Sociology, and Philosophy are also available in the Department. Students should consult course descriptions and prerequisites for more information.
