Emerson College

Career Services for Alumni

Career Services offers the following resources for students at all stages of career development. Emerson Alumni can utilize all the same resources that are available to current students. As job seekers, alumni are encouraged to use all office resources, both on-campus and online, to aid them in their career searches. Alumni may also have needs as employers. Career Services offers many college recruiting resources, such as a jobs and internships database and opportunities for on-campus recruiting.

Individual Career Advising

Career Advisors are available to discuss issues related to career planning; resumes, cover letters and interviewing; job search strategies; or career transitions. If you are unable to visit our office in person, you may request a telephone appointment be arranged with one of our career counselors.

eHIRE

eHire is a database of all things career related. Students can use the job search function to search for employment and volunteer opportunities and/or use the Employer Directory to search for contact information for particular companies. eHire is also where students can find and register for all Career Services events. Resumes and cover letters can be stored within the system for easy electronic access. And, eHire is home to the online Career Resource Library—an electronic collection of resource lists of print publications and websites that can assist with the job search process.

Resume & Cover Letter Review

To have your resume and/or cover letter reviewed, please either schedule an individual appointment with one of our career counselors or visit our office during walk-in hours held Monday through Friday from 1-4 p.m. during the academic year.  You may also take advantage of our cover letter and resume workshops given regularly throughout Emerson’s fall and spring semesters.

Mock Interviews

Career Advisors are available to conduct mock interviews during individual advising appointments. To schedule a mock interview, please call the front desk, at 617-824-8586, and specify you are looking to do a mock interview. Make sure to inform the scheduler whether or not you would like the interview to be videotaped. An appointment will be scheduled with an advisor you have not previously seen, and you will be asked to provide a resume, cover letter and job description by email prior to the appointment.

The purpose of a mock interview is to practice going through the interviewing process, and as such, should be treated like a real interview. The participant should come appropriately dressed, arrive on time, and bring a copy of his/her resume and cover letter.

Workshops

Career Services offers workshops throughout the academic year that cover a broad range of career-related topics. Descriptions and times for all Career Services workshops are listed on the calendar found in eHire. Recurring Topics: Writing Resumes; Interviewing; Job Searching; Salary Negotiation; Networking Strategies.

Career Resource Library

The Career Resource Library (216 Tremont, 6th Floor) is open during business hours, and includes more than 30 trade magazines, national industry directories, hundreds of career-related books, and industry resource guides for all Emerson majors.

Mentoring

If you would like to share the knowledge that you've gained since graduating from Emerson College, please consider signing up to participate in the Emerson Mentor Network. You can volunteer to be available for informational interviews with current students and other alumni, speaking on panels, offering internship opportunities, hosting site visits, or other opportunities.

Office of Alumni Relations

The Office of Alumni Relations and the Emerson alumni community are both valuable career resources. Alumni Relations offers professional development events, networking programs, and webinars in conjunction with regional alumni groups around the country. These events provide an opportunity to interact with fellow Emersonians in varying fields and stay up-to-date on the latest industry trends. The Emerson alumni community includes information about these regional alumni groups and their events, a business directory, and a secure online directory that can be used to search and contact over 30,000 alumni by location, company, or key word so you can make the most of your Emerson connections.
