Since its 2016 launch, the Business of Creative Enterprises (BCE) program has been recognized as a first-of-its-kind in higher education. On Tuesday, December 15, BCE will host a first-of-its-kind, open-to-everyone conference on “The Future of the Creative Industry.”

The half-day event will be headlined by a discussion with the iconic make-up artist and entrepreneur Bobbi Brown ’79, H’12. In the following panel discussions and breakout sessions, accomplished professionals from the fashion and music industries will share their insights on the ever-changing business landscape.

Wes Jackson, director of the BCE program and an entrepreneur himself, shared that he has been thinking of this opportunity for some time.

“We came up with the idea last year, even before COVID, recognizing that there are few, if any, spaces for creative industry professionals, entrepreneurs, and academics to come together and discuss our common interests and unique experiences and ideas,” Jackson explained. “Our desire is to make Emerson and the BCE program the destination for such discussions. As the world changes, the creative industry must as well. It is time to rewrite the rules to address issues of equality and conclusion, both from a cultural and economic perspective. Who better to write those rules than us?

“Of course,” Jackson adds, “we would prefer to gather in person, but this inaugural conference will still provide connections and insight, and set the precedent for future events.”
