Meet the Coaches

Head Coach John Furey

Coach FureyHead Men's and Women's Cross-Country coach John Furey has been coaching across country since 1986.  John has been the Emerson Women's mentor since 1998 and took over the men's team as well at its inception in2003. He has coached for Eastern Nazarene College and North Quincy High School before coming to Emerson, and is experienced coaching both elite and novice runners.

John has coached three Emerson women's teams to Great Northeast Athletic Conference titles.  He has also served as coach for the American Stroke Association and Team Brigham Marathon team.

An avid runner himself, John has logged over 70,000 miles and run in over 600 races.  His personal best times are 2:25.50 for a marathon, 30:40 for a 10K, 14:32 for a 5K, and a 4:08 mile.

John is currently a Senior Health/Fitness Specialist with FitCorp. In the December, 2005 issue of Men's Journal, John was named as one of the top 100 trainers in America.  He holds a master's degree in exercise physiology from Bridgewater State College.

Assistant Coach Jenn Finn

Jenn Finn, Director of the Emerson College Fitness Center, is the assistant cross country coach.  Jenn is an avid runner for over  a decade and she has competed in both the Boston and Chicago Marathons.

Jenn graduated from Bridgewater State College with a bachelor of science degree in Physical Education/Motor Development Therapy.  A former gymnast, running has also been part of her personal fitness program; giving her a way to continue to compete and to push herself both physically and mentally.

Jenn began working with the Emerson Cross Country teams in 2004, and also assisted with the Emerson indoor track program for one year.
