
Meet the Coach
Head Coach Jared Scarpaci
Jared Scarpaci took over the reins of the Emerson College Men’s soccer program in the Fall of 2003 and the improvement in the program was immediate. In Jared’s initial season the Lions compiled a 11-7-1 record and advanced to the semi-finals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament.
Success on the soccer pitch is no stranger to Jared, who is a native of Danvers, Mass. He came to Emerson from an assistant coaching position at perennial New England Division III power Salem (Mass.) State College where he spent two years with the men’s team while earning a Masters Degree in Education. Among his duties with the program were recruiting and scheduling, as well as practice and game coaching.
A graduate assistant at Stetson University for the 2000 season where he began work on his masters degree, Jared handled many of the administrative aspects of the program. Jared also spent two seasons at Endicott College with the men’s team and was an assistant in the Wentworth Institute of Technology women’s program.
Heavily involved in youth soccer, Jared is the Director of the Massachusetts Olympic Development program. As such he supervises a dozen teams and over 250 players and is responsible for all administrative aspects of the organization including the hiring of coaches and fundraising.
Jared holds a US Soccer Federation National "B" License and an Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. He has played semi-professional soccer with the Lowell Blues and the Massachusetts Aztec.
A History major in college at Clemson University where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree, Jared had a minor in Religious Studies. He was a member of the Clemson club that was ranked twelfth in the nation while in college and also played for two seasons at Division I Siena College.
A high school history teacher on the North Shore, Jared has a master's degree in Secondary Education from Salem State College. He has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, and has started his own sport for development non-profit organization, Global Goals.
Assistant Coach: Javier Mejia-Blau
Francisco Javier Mejia-Blau, a 2004 Emerson College graduate with a bachelors degree in marketing, advertising and public relations, is an assistant coach for the men’s soccer team.
A member of the Emerson men’s soccer team, Mejia-Blau was selected captain during his junior and senior years including the 2004 season when the team set an Emerson College record of 14 wins (14-6 overall). Prior to transferring to Emerson, Mejia-Blau was also a member of the University of Hartford men’s team in the fall of 1997, a team which advanced to the Division 1 NCAA tournament quarterfinals in 1996.
Mejia-Blau currently holds a USSF Class "D” coaching license, NSCAA National Diploma, and an NSCAA National Goalkeeping Diploma. He has also coached Under 17 boys for Cambridge Youth Soccer, has done scouting/recruiting for Lesley University men’s soccer, and has worked with Mass Olympic Development Program as a talent evaluator.
David Suvak joined the Emerson staff in 2007 following a lengthy coaching and playing career. Suvak is a graduate of Winchester, Mass., High School where he led his team to the Eastern Massachusetts State Co-Championship in 1981, and was a multiple award winner during his playing career at Boston College earning most improved player honors in 1983, MVP kudos in 1985, and was team captain in 1987. He continues to play in the Men's Over 40 Division of the Winchester Soccer Club.
On the sidelines Suvak holds a National Soccer Coaches Association of America National Diploma, and has earned a National "C" Coaching License from the United States Soccer Federation. Throughout his coaching career he has coached both girls and boys with such teams and affiliations as the Sachems Football Club, The Football Club of Greater Boston Bolts, the Inter Bandits Soccer Club Boston, the Massachusetts Olympic Development Program, and the Winchester and Stoneham Soccer Clubs.
