Meet the Coaches

Head Coach, David Hanley

Coach Dave HanleyCoach Hanley joined the Emerson Baseball Program in January, 2005.  After two Springs competing as a Club Team Hanley led the Lions into their first Season in three years at the Varsity level.  The Emerson squad won 7 games, 5 in the Conference, to give them a berth in the GNAC Playoffs as the fifth seed.

Hanley was pleased but not satisfied with his team’s first year accomplishment, saying “Winning 7 games and making the Conference Playoffs in our first year was a start.  We were extremely inexperienced, with three Seniors, each with only one year at the Varsity level as Freshman.  In 2008 we have 10 returning lettermen and expect better results.”

Hanley also Coaches the Medford Maddogs in the Yawkey Baseball League, one of the premier semi-pro wood bat leagues in New England.  Since the Summer of 2004 Hanley has piloted the Maddogs to an 87-42 record, a winning percentage of .674 and four straight appearances in the playoffs.  Hanley was voted by his peers “YBL Manager of the Year” in 2004 and 2006.

Hanley is a graduate of Suffolk University and holds an M.Ed from Cambridge College.

Assistant Coach, Jim Taylor

Jim TaylorCoach Taylor joined Coach Hanley on the Emerson Staff in the Fall of 2005 and has been a major contributor in the rebuilding of the Program.  Coach Taylor works all aspects of the game with a focus on hitting and has become a fixture in the Coaches Box during games.

Taylor is a graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology

Assistant Coach, Buddy Hanley

Buddy HanleyCoach Hanley is starting his second year with Emerson.  He is a 2006 graduate of Clark University where he lettered in Baseball all four years for the Cougars.  Mainly a shortstop, Hanley played all four infield positions and was a starting pitcher.  Hitting over .300 twice, his College highlights include a 5-hit game against WPI and pitching a 5-hit complete game against Babson in the NEWMAC playoffs his Senior year in his final start.

Coach Hanley’s main focus is working with the pitchers and infielders
