Head Coach David Hanley #15

Coach Hanley joined the Emerson Baseball Program in January, 2005.  After playing at the “Club” level for two years, in the Spring of ’07, Hanley led the Lions back to Varsity status.  Competing in the GNAC over the past three seasons the Lions have won 29 games, including 15 Conference wins to secure postseason berths in the GNAC Playoffs in ’07, ‘08 and ’09.

Since returning to a Varsity program, the Lions have traveled to Myrtle Beach, S.C., Fort Myers, Fl. and Orlando, Fl.  During Spring Break in 2010 they will play their first 10 games of the season in Winter Haven, Fl. and will also travel to New York City playing games in the Bronx and in Brooklyn.

The Lions have had 5 players selected to the GNAC All Conference Team during the past three seasons.  The Lion’s Baseball Program is most proud of the fact that two players have been named to the ESPN:  The Magazine College Division Academic All-District team.  Bryan Fennessey, in ‘08 and Peter Karl in ’09.

Coach Hanley also coaches the Medford Maddogs in the Yawkey Baseball League, one of the premier semi-pro wood bat leagues in New England.  Since the Summer of 2004 Hanley has piloted the Maddogs to over 120 wins, a winning percentage of  over .650, and five Playoff appearances during the past six seasons.  Hanley was voted by his peers “YBL Manager of the Year” for the ’04 and ’06 Seasons.  Three Maddogs players have signed professional contracts.

Hanley is a graduate of Suffolk University and holds an M.Ed from Cambridge College.

Assistant Coach, Jim Taylor #14

Coach Taylor joined Coach Hanley on the Emerson Staff in the Fall of 2005 and has been instrumental in rebuilding the program.  Coach Taylor works on all aspects of the game, with a focus on hitting and catching, and has become a fixture over the past four seasons in the first base coaches box.

Coach Taylor is also on the Medford Maddogs coaching staff, serves as a board member for the Medford Babe Ruth organization, and is the Head Coach of the Medford entry in the Essex County Senior Babe Ruth League.

Taylor is a graduate of Northeastern University and Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Assistant Coach, Buddy Hanley #11

Coach Hanley is starting his fourth year with the Lions.  He is a 2006 graduate of Clark University in Worcester, where he lettered all four years for the Cougars.  Mainly a shortstop, Hanley saw action at all four infield positions as well as on the mound as a starting pitcher.  Hitting over .300 twice, his collegiate highlights include a 5-hit game against WPI and pitching a 5-hit complete game against Babson in the NEWMAC Playoffs his Senior year.

Coach Hanley’s main focus is working with the pitchers and infielders, and manning the third base coaches box.

Hanley is currently enrolled in the Northeastern University Sports Management Masters Degree Program.
