Meet Mi Kyung "Miki" Kim and Lloyd Nelson, two seniors who are about to graduate:

| Q: How has the Emerson faculty influenced you? What have been some of your favorite classes and projects? A: The biggest project I’ve done is a documentary with my classmate Jason Hoffman for our BFA degree. This past summer we traveled to Korea in search of Jason’s birthparents, and documented the whole thing for a feature length film. Right now we’re in post-production for it. This is by far my favorite project, because it’s so personal for Jason and me, and we have been given so much creative freedom with it. Our teacher, Rob Todd, was there to guide us every step of the way, and we have had all the resources and advice around us to help us achieve what we want. Q: What are your plans for the rest of your time at Emerson? A: I’m in the Los Angeles program now. I really like it so far; I feel like I’m going to. I’m also doing an internship at Anonymous Content, a production company that does videos, and commercials. I’m going to be working specifically with one director, so a good experience. Q: How have you seen Emerson change and grow while you have been a student? A: I feel like Emerson is changing and improving itself very quickly, the facilities are snazzier—we have the Paramount Theater and Piano Row now. I think Emerson does a good job; it has really good management. Q: What are your goals for post-graduation? A: My first goal is to get a job! I’m very interested in producing; I’m also interested in the sales aspect of film production. I grew up in Hong Kong, so I’m interested in international film sales. | Q: What did you expect when you came to Emerson? A: Emerson exceeded everything I thought I was going to be able to do. For example, during my freshman year, I covered gang violence in Roxbury for my ‘Newsgathering’ class with Mark Lecesse, and this year, covered the presidential primary campaign in N.H. for my ‘Road to the White House’ class with Jerry Lanson and Carole Simpson. I never thought I’d have the opportunity to do these things in college on such a great scale. Q: What do you do outside of class? A: I’ve worked for the Berkeley Beacon, the school newspaper, and done things like attend the International Association of Business Disciplines in San Diego with Greg Payne. We offered real-time coverage of the conference by blogging stories and posting audio and video online. Activities have enriched my time here because I’m not only aware of what’s going on at Emerson, but also of what’s going on in the city. I’ve really become a true Bostonian. Q: What are your plans for the rest of your time at Emerson? A: I’m going to Beijing this summer to cover the 2008 Olympics. Emerson was one of five colleges and universities in the U.S. chosen to cover the games by the official Olympic News Service. Other than that, I just want to enjoy it. I’ve learned a lot that’s going to be essential to my career, and I want to savor the semester I have left here. Q: What are your goals for post-graduation? A: To get a job as a reporter at a paper, hopefully in the South, and work my way up to the Baltimore Sun. |

Faculty and staff giving
2008 Payroll Deduction Form for Emerson College Faculty & Staff
No one understands Emerson better than the faculty and staff who commit their time, talent and energy to support Emerson College. These dedicated professionals help to enrich the academic and personal lives of all who participate in the Emerson experience. Each year, the Annual Fund gives every member of Emerson’s community an opportunity to make EC an even better place by making a financial commitment to an area of their choice. Participation helps demonstrate Emerson pride, and also acts as a catalyst to inspire gifts from Emerson’s other constituents. These include alumni, parents, friends, local businesses, graduating seniors, and this year, for the first-time in Emerson history, even gifts from Freshmen.
Most importantly, faculty and staff participation helps provide different areas within the College resources necessary to empower students to become the leaders of tomorrow. For further information on the faculty and staff giving, please contact Cheryl Crounse, Director of Annual Giving, at ext. 8543 or cheryl_crounse@emerson.edu
