Alumni Profile
Lee Stacey '79

“I love the energy of today’s students.”
Were you an undergraduate or graduate student, or both?
Undergraduate student.
Why did you decide to come to Emerson?
I loved the campus in Boston and the great media market it was in, which provided many opportunities in the communication field.
How is Emerson a part of your life today?
I enjoy being part of the alumni board and meeting with today's students and helping them any way that I can.
Describe a favorite Emerson memory.
I was fortunate enough to befriend a political reporter for a Boston TV station while being a student, and shadowed him during his rounds at the State House. It was a great opportunity to see how reporters really worked.
Describe a notable achievement in your career.
I was fortunate to be SVP, Sales for the New York Jets during their unsuccessful attempt to build a stadium on the Westside of New York. While the efforts were defeated, it was a great experience in which I was able to meet a large number people connected with the political process.
What are your goals for the future?
I hope to stay as involved with Emerson as I can. I love the energy of today's students.
Describe Emerson in 3 sentences or less.
Emerson is always changing for the better, has very impressive growth, and a staff that really cares. On top of that, you get a great education in an amazing location.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
Never forget where you came from and remember to enjoy yourself!
What advice do you have for recent graduates?
Network, network, network—never stop networking; it's a small world.

The West Wing got him hooked, but it was his writing skills that got him there. Michael Moats, MFA ’10, came to Emerson as a graduate student in creative writing. He never thought he’d leave as a political speechwriter.
