General Education Curriculum

Emerson College's General Education Curriculum ensures....

  • that students learn to think and communicate with clarity, substance, and insight

  • that students discover a critical appreciation of the ways in which we gain knowledge and understanding of the universe, of society, and of ourselves through knowledge of different comprehensive and significant modes of inquiry represented by liberal arts disciplines

  • that students are prepared both for their chosen professional careers in communication and the performing arts and a lifetime of continued learning and change

  • that students develop a global perspective

  • that an Emerson education will provide a foundation for students to become ethical, informed, and active participants in society

The Gen Eds at a Glance

  • Foundations - 2 Written Communication courses (or 1 written communication course and 1 waiver), 1 Oral communication course, and 1 Quantitative Reasoning course (or waiver)

  • Perspectives - Students must complete one course from each of the following perspectives: Aesthetic, Ethics and Values, Historical, Interdisciplinary, Literary, Scientific, and Social and Psychological

  • Global and U.S. Diversity - 1 Global Diversity course, 1 U.S. Diversity course, and World Languages (or waiver)
