Documentation of Finances: I-20 & Visa Information

If you are accepted to Emerson, we must receive your tuition deposit and all of the financial documents below before issuing your I-20.

The United States government requires that all international applicants provide proof of their financial ability to pay tuition and living expenses. As an international student, you may apply for merit-based scholarships, but you are not eligible for need-based financial aid. You are therefore required to show that you have sufficient funds to cover your academic and living expenses for one year. The estimated cost of attendance for the 2009-2010 academic year is USD $45,000. Please submit the following documents.

Please provide us with a bank document that is:

  1. In English
  2. In US Dollars
  3. An original document (not a fax or a photocopy)
  4. Evidence of a minimum of USD $45,000
  5. Signed by a bank official
  6. Issued within 12 months of the start date of your program. (Please note that the funds must be liquid: real estate and forms of property are not acceptable forms of documentation.)
  • Letter of Sponsorship
    • If your official bank letter represents finances of someone other than you, then please include this letter of sponsorship. Please make sure your financial sponsor signs and dates the letter.

Are you already studying in the US?

If so, you must submit one copy of the following:

  • Your current F-1 student visa
  • Your I-94 arrival/departure record (the small white card stapled into your passport)
  • Your previous I-20
  • Your passport (please submit a photocopy of the biological/identification page of your passport)
  • Transfer Verification Form
  • Any other relevant documents
