Housing and Residence Life

Emerson has a variety of residence halls each having their own unique community. These communities provide residents an opportunity to learn more about themselves and others. Also included in the residence halls are the learning communities, special floors designated for a particular interest. Information about residence halls...

If your child will not be living on-campus, our Off-Campus Student Services office is available to offer assistance in finding roommates and locating apartments.

Incoming students for the fall living on-campus will be mailed a guide from the Office of Housing in late July that will include the following:

  • Placement letter (information about where your child is living and his/her roommate(s)/suitemates(s)
  • Check-in times and move-in information
  • Hall opening and closing dates
  • A parking placard for move-in

In preparation for your student's move to Emerson College, here are some quick tips. More information from the Office of Housing will be available in the mailed guide in July.

Bedding: All of our beds are XL Twin (36” x 80”), so you’ll need to purchase XL sheets – which can be found at stores such as Target and Bed, Bath and Beyond. When packing for college, you may want to consider bringing sheet sets, a mattress pad, bed foam, extra pillowcases, pillows, and a comforter.
Fridges and Microwaves: Resident students are permitted to have a fridge and microwave. Microwaves up to, but not greater than, 700 watts of cooking power are permitted. Refrigerator and freezer combinations no larger than 3 cubic feet total are permitted.
Bedrisers: You’ll definitely want to make the most of the space in your child's room.  Many of our students choose to use bedrisers to lift their bed off the ground and use the space underneath for storage. Beds can be raised a maximum of 6 inches by using commercially manufactured bedrisers.
Posters: To prevent damage to your posters and the walls, please use removable 3M poster tape or removable adhesive squares.  This will cause the least amount of damage to the walls.
Window Treatments: All windows are outfitted with shades. Curtains, as well as tapestries and other such wall hangings are not permitted.

What About Safety?

Emerson’s Public Safety staff work to maintain safe and secure surroundings amid the bustle of an urban campus. Security desks are located in every Emerson building with additional desks in the residence halls that monitor access. Our Public Safety Department also provides law enforcement protection and emergency services on a 24/7 basis, a walking escort service, property identification and engraving, and a state-of-the-art emergency notification system.
