You will join international students from more than 40 countries on our downtown campus in the historic and dynamic city of Boston.

International Applicant Instructions:

All application materials, with the exception of GRE/GMAT test scores, must be submitted together in one package to ensure timely review.  A complete application includes:

  • Application

    • The online application will be available September 1, 2009, as we are currently transitioning to a new application system.
  • Application Fee
    • $75 for international applicants
  • Official Transcripts
    • We require final official transcripts from all previous undergraduate (Bachelor's) and graduate (Master's or Doctorate level) colleges/universities you have attended. Your transcript is your academic record (similar to a summary of your mark sheets) from your college/university that indicates the number of lecture and laboratory hours for each course, plus the grade (or your country's equivalent–for example, percentage or rank) you received. The final transcript should show the degree you were awarded with the date it was given.
    • In most instances, students with three-year undergraduate degrees from India will need to take a final year of undergraduate coursework before they are admissible to a graduate program in the U.S. However, you can still choose to submit your application to Emerson College with your current transcript. Another option you have is to submit your undergraduate transcript to an independent evaluation service, such as World Evaluation Services (www.wes.org). They will give you a better sense of your degree's equivalency to the United States' system.
    • All transcripts and other credentials MUST be translated into English by an official translator and submitted, along with the original transcript, with the application.

    • Theatre Education applicants must also submit an Artistic Resume.

• Official TOEFL or IELTS scores

Applicants whose native language is not English must provide evidence of English proficiency by submitting official TOEFL or IELTS test results. (Please note that applicants from India and the Philippines are considered non-native English speakers and are required to take the TOEFL.) Emerson College's school code for the TOEFL is 3367; no department code is needed. For more information about these tests, you can visit www.toefl.org or www.ielts.org.
Minimum TOEFL score: 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based, and 80 Internet-based; minimum IELTS: 6.5.
Please note: TOEFL and/or IELTS is not required of students:
  • Whose native language is English
  • Who have a Bachelor's or Master's degree from an institution in a country where English is the native language (the U.S. and territories, Great Britain and territories, Australia, New Zealand, & Canada)

Students who attended a U.S.-sponsored undergraduate institution in a country other than the U.S., Great Britain and its territories, Australia, New Zealand, or Canada are required to take the TOEFL or IELTS test.

• International Student Form

This form provides information necessary for your Form I-20 (immigration document).

• Certification of Finances

You are required to show that you have enough funds for your academic and living expenses for one year. The estimated cost of attendance for the 2009-2010 academic year is USD $36,699.
